A Strategic Plan for Des Moines Public Schools
One definition of the word cultivate is “to foster the growth of.” In Iowa – from the education of our children to the crops on our farms – the act of cultivating is ingrained in our culture and history. This new comprehensive plan – “Cultivating Success: A Strategic Plan for Des Moines Public Schools” – is rooted in that concept by outlining the school district’s ambitious vision and priorities for the future while reflecting an unwavering commitment to the success and well-being of every student, educator, and family at Des Moines Public Schools.
The development of this strategic plan was deeply informed by input and feedback from teachers, staff, and community members. It reflects the collective aspirations and priorities of those who are directly invested in the success of our schools and students. Their insights were invaluable in shaping a plan that addresses the needs and opportunities unique to Des Moines Public Schools.
“Cultivating Success” is centered around five key priorities:
- Cultivating Equity & Excellence Through High Quality Teaching & Learning: Ensuring every student receives an exceptional education that prepares them for lifelong success.
- Cultivating Well-Being: Promoting the physical, emotional, and social well-being of our students and staff.
- Cultivating Transformative Talent: Attracting, developing, and retaining talented educators and staff who are dedicated to our mission.
- Cultivating Organizational Effectiveness: Delivering exceptional services throughout the operations of Iowa’s largest school district.
- Cultivating Community and Collaboration: Building strong partnerships with families, community members, and stakeholders to support our shared goals.
These five priorities serve as the foundation for achieving ambitious goals, and embody the dedication of Des Moines Public Schools to creating a nurturing and equitable environment where every student can thrive and succeed on their own terms.
