Walnut Street School Plans Cultural Event to Celebrate IB Authorization
Walnut Street School will hold a community event to celebrate their authorization as an International Baccalaureate World School.
The event will be held:
Saturday, June 9
4:00 to 6:00 PM
Walnut Street School
901 Walnut Street
(All events will be outside. In the event of inclement weather,
events will be moved inside of the school).
A full slate of entertainment is planned for the celebration including performances by a Chinese musician, Latino band and dance group, Japanese drummers, and local artist Concetta Morales; student performances, and a visit from Wally the Tiger (the school’s mascot).
Cultural information will be on display and families will have the opportunity to take part in art activities, face painting, and dancing.
Walnut Street School received notification from the International Baccalaureate Organization in March that they are now authorized to teach the Primary Years Programme. Seven schools in Des Moines are currently authorized to offer one of three different International Baccalaureate programs. Those schools are: Central Academy, Goodrell Middle School, Merrill Middle School, Hubbell Elementary School, Park Avenue Elementary School, Stowe Elementary School, and Walnut Street Elementary School.
