Scavo Has Revised Hours, Dates to Prepare for Move to New Home
Moving an entire high school is no small task. Now, imagine doing it over the course of a holiday break.
That’s exactly what Scavo High School is undertaking over the next few weeks as they prepare to leave their current building along Douglas Avenue in northwest Des Moines (which will reopen next year as Moore Elementary School) and set up in their new home at Central Campus.
Because of the move, class schedules at Scavo are being adjusted to allow teachers and staff time to prepare:
- EARLY DISMISSAL: Classes will dismiss 90 minutes early at Scavo on Wednesday, December 17; Thursday, December 18; and Friday, December 19.
- NO CLASSES: Scavo will not hold classes on Monday, January 5 and Tuesday, January 6. Classes at Scavo will resume on Wednesday, January 7. (NOTE: All other DMPS schools will resume classes on Monday, January 5 following the Winter break.)
In addition, Scavo will be holding an open house for students and their families between 3:30 and 6:00 on Tuesday, January 6 to tour the new location and pick up new IDs.
Scavo High School’s new location is the result of a $7.7 million renovation to the fourth floor of Central Campus, providing new classrooms and other support programs for students.
