Registration for 2012-2013 Head Start Program Begins February 17
Registration for Des Moines Public Schools’ Head Start program for the 2012-2013 school year will begin February 17, 2012.
Registration will take place at the Welcome Center, 1301 2nd Avenue. Applicants are required to bring proof of birth (child’s birth certificate or T-19 card) and proof of income (taxes from 2011, current FIP or current SSI).
Head Start is a federally funded comprehensive child development program that serves income eligible children ages 3 to 5 and their families. The Des Moines Head Start program is a delegate of the Drake University Head Start program serving over 400 children in several elementary schools throughout Des Moines.
“Head Start’s overall goal is to increase school readiness for young children from low income families who meet federal income guidelines,” said Susie Guest, Early Childhood Programs Administrator for Des Moines Public Schools. “A range of support services are also provided including development and health screenings as well as nutrition and social services. Parent involvement is welcomed and highly encouraged.”
Head Start classes are held four days per week with no school on Wednesday.
Families may call 515-242-7588 or 515-242-7234 for more information or to schedule an appointment to register their child.
