Moulton School to Close Next Week for Cleaning, Inspections, Air Tests
The Moulton Extended Learning Center will be closed the week of August 22. The step is being done out of an abundance of caution in order to avoid a potential health issue.
Tests last week confirmed that mold was present in a classroom at Moulton. That classroom was thoroughly cleaned along with additional steps taken to remove moisture and prevent the future growth of mold.
However, a follow-up test showed that the level of mold was still elevated.
Beginning on Monday, Moulton will be closed for one week. During that time there will be additional cleaning throughout the building; an inspection of the ventilation system by a mechanical contractor, who will make any necessary repairs; and additional air tests in order to make sure everything is back to normal before students and staff members return to school.
Moulton is a continuous year calendar school in Des Moines, and began the 2011-12 school year on July 15. School days missed next week will be made up during future school breaks currently scheduled. Pending the results of additional tests, classes will resume on Monday, August 29.
