Middle School Student Projects on Display at Annual Science Fair
Students from Des Moines middle schools will present their scientific endeavors at the fourth annual DMPS Middle School Science Fair.
The Middle School Science Fair will be held:
Thursday, February 16
5:00 to 7:30 PM
Science Center of Iowa
401 W. Martin Luther King Junior Parkway
“DMPS middle school students and teachers have worked tirelessly since September experimenting and creating displays that will be shown at our district fair,” said Kim O’Donnell, DMPS science curriculum coordinator. “The fair gives the students an opportunity to display their scientific work and to communicate with scientific professionals in our community.”
Many of the students have already participated in building fairs and the Science Bound Science Fair. Students who place first, second, or third in one of nine different categories on Thursday will receive medals and advance to the State of Iowa Science Fair held at Hilton Coliseum in Ames on March 30-31.
In the last four years, participation in the Middle School Science Fair has grown from 50 projects during the first year to 125 projects this year. More than 175 students from nine Des Moines middle schools participate in the event.
Admission to the Science Fair is free to all DMPS families, students and staff.
