Masks Optional But Strongly Encouraged Inside DMPS Buildings
Effective May 20, face coverings will be optional in DMPS buildings for staff, students, and visitors. A state law signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds shortly after midnight supersedes CDC recommendations and Polk County Health Department guidance that schools continue to require masks until the end of the school year for the health and safety of unvaccinated students and staff.
Due to the size of our district, limited space in our buildings, and the number of students still unvaccinated, DMPS continues to strongly encourage masks while indoors. Face coverings are still the best method available to protect the unvaccinated.
Masks will continue to be required on school buses in accordance with a federal order requiring masks on all public transportation.
If your child is exposed to another student with COVID-19, you will be notified as soon as possible. We will continue to follow CDC recommendations regarding quarantine.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact your school nurse.
