Kimberly Martorano Joins School Board as Newest Director
The Des Moines Community School District Board of Directors welcomes Kimberly Martorano as the newest member, representing District 1. Martorano serves out the remainder of Heather Anderson’s term.
Martorano holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology education from Illinois State University. She is currently serving as an Information system specialist with the Johnston Community School District, and was previously employed as a data analyst with Des Moines Public Schools and an education training specialist with Computer Information Concepts
“It is a great honor to be appointed to the District 1 Board of Directors seat for Des Moines Public Schools,” Martorano said. “I appreciate the confidence the Board has in me and feel confident that I can make a significant contribution.”
Martorano served on the executive board of Lake County Federation of Teachers Local 504 and volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Martorano was sworn in during the Board of Directors meeting on August 17, 2020.
Anderson announced her resignation last month effective July 31, 2020 to take a teaching position in Japan. Martorano will serve until the November 2021 election. At that time voters will elect a director to serve until 2023 and complete the remaining two years of Anderson’s term.
