Isaiah McGee Joins DMPS as Equity Coordinator
Des Moines Public Schools is pleased to announce that Isaiah McGee will be joining the school district as Equity Coordinator. McGee is currently at the Iowa Department of Education where he is responsible for facilitating equity audits and providing technical assistance to address achievement gaps in Iowa schools.
“We are proud of our diversity among the 32,000 students we serve as well as the 5,000 employees who work for us in more than 60 schools throughout the community,” said Superintendent Tom Ahart. “As our Equity Coordinator, Isaiah McGee brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to help make certain that all employees and students are treated with fairness under the law as it applies to their position with DMPS.”
McGee will be in charge of facilitating the equity grievance process, and make sure the District is compliant with laws including Title IX, Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. He will ensure information about the District’s non-discrimination policies is disseminated internally, externally and to community groups. McGee will also train staff and students about their rights and responsibilities under the law, and review and disseminate student achievement data, course enrollment data, student activity data, and employment and personnel data.
McGee has worked as a teacher, coach and with the Iowa Department of Human Rights. He has served on many community boards and foundations and been the recipient of several leadership awards.
McGee will begin working with DMPS on Wednesday, April 4, 2014.
