Early Dismissal at Lovejoy, Jefferson Due to Power Outage

Jefferson and Lovejoy elementary schools continue to be without power due to this morning’s storms.

There is currently not an estimated time for when power will be restored at either school. Because of that, Jefferson and Lovejoy will dismiss early today and parents may pick up their children any time after 11:30 AM.

Students at both schools are being provided with an early lunch prior to that time. If parents are unable to pick up their children at this time, students may remain at school until today’s dismissal time (1:30 for Jefferson and 2:00 for Lovejoy). However, the Metro Kids afterschool program at both schools is cancelled for today.

All other schools in Des Moines will operate on the normal schedule for the first day of school, which includes a 90-minute early dismissal.
