DMPS, Parks & Rec Partner for Youth Basketball League
Des Moines Parks and Recreation and Des Moines Public Schools are partnering to offer a youth basketball league for the 2014-2015 season.
Jason Allen, District Activities Coordinator for Des Moines Public Schools sees the partnership as a great opportunity for Des Moines youth.
“We are excited to be partnering with Parks and Recreation,” said Allen. “They have a history of providing great programs for youth, and through this collaboration we look forward to expanding our activities to an additional group of Des Moines Public School students.”
Hoover Huskies boys basketball coach Courtney Henderson is also excited to participate: “The Hoover Husky basketball program looks forward to partnering DMPR to provide more opportunities and resources for our youth in the Des Moines metro area.”
Separate leagues are available for boys and girls with each offering divisions for 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th and 7th grade.
Other information about the league includes:
- Practices start mid-October
- Games played weekends November 8 through February 15
- Practices and games held at area schools and community centers
- Leagues will be separated by gender and grade
- Jerseys, scorekeepers and officials are included in the registration fee
- Individuals will be grouped by school or geographical area
The registration fee is $50 per student or $450.00 per team.
