DMPS Names New Cowles Montessori Principal: Tina Langston
Des Moines Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Tina Langston as the new principal of Cowles Montessori School. Langston is currently the principal of Border Star Montessori in Kansas City, Mo.
“Tina’s experience serving as a principal of a Montessori school for the past five years will be a tremendous benefit to the Cowles faculty and students,” said Dr. Nancy Sebring, Superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools. “She is dedicated to the success of students learning through the Montessori model.”
Cowles is Iowa’s only public Montessori school, serving nearly 350 students from preschool through 8th grade.
“I am thrilled to take on this new challenge and be part of the wonderful community at Cowles Montessori,” added Langston. “It will be exciting to continue the success the school has experienced and also share my knowledge with the teachers and students.”
Langston has been the principal of Border Star since 2007 serving PreK-6 grades. During that time, she recruited Montessori trainees and hosted an on-site teacher training center in collaboration with the Association Montessori International. She also led Montessori teacher professional development and Parent Education Nights.
Langston began her teaching career at Gladstone Elementary in Kansas City as a first grade teacher and then served as vice principal of McCoy Elementary and Weeks Elementary Schools in Kansas City for six years.
She received her BS in Elementary Education from Creighton University and an MA in educational administration from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.
