Back-to-School Registration Gets Underway
With the new school year a little more than a month away for most students, Des Moines Public Schools’ families can register for the 2012-2013 school year beginning as early as next week. Detailed information on school registration times, dates and locations is available here.
Four Des Moines elementary schools will hold registration for returning students during the week of July 16: Cattell, Edmunds, South Union, and Stowe.
Most elementary schools will hold registration during the week of July 23-27. Those schools are Brubaker, Carver, Cowles, Downtown, Garton, Greenwood, Hanawalt, Hillis, Howe, Jackson, King, Madison, McKinley, Monroe, Morris, Oak Park, Park Avenue, Perkins, Phillips, Pleasant Hill, Samuelson, Walnut Street, Willard, and Windsor.
In addition, Findley School will be holding registration on July 30-31 and Hubbell School will be holding registration on August 7-8. Wright School is registering students by mail and new students by appointment.
A few elementary schools have already completed registration. Studebaker School registered students in April while Jefferson and Lovejoy schools registered students in May.
All Des Moines middle schools and high schools will hold registration for returning students during the week of August 6.
Families new to Des Moines Public Schools and ELL families are encouraged to register by appointment at the Welcome Center, 1301 2nd Avenue. Hours during the day are between 8:30 AM and 3:00 PM. On July 23-26, the Welcome Center will have extended hours from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Appointments can be made by calling 242-7371 or 242-8102 (ELL Program).
Families must bring proof of address (utility bill, lease agreement, etc.), photo identification, and emergency contact information to registration.
“We’re excited to welcome everyone to Des Moines Public Schools for the start of a new school year,” said Tom Ahart, interim superintendent. “Parents should remember returning students must register for each new school year even if they attended the same school last year. This is an opportunity to update contact information, obtain school physical forms and receive class schedules.”
