IB Shelter at Goodrell – DMPS-TV News

Goodrell Middle School and East High students spent Tuesday, April 7th building a Safe T Home® on the Goodrell school property with Global Compassion Network. A Safe T Home® is highly-modified grain bin turned into a home for people in need around the world. Made by Sukup Manufacturing, Global Compassion Network has built nearly 150 Safe T Homes® in Haiti, 10 in Kenya, and 10 in Peru.

Amy Taylor, International Baccalaureate MYP Coordinator at Goodrell Middle School explained that 8th graders are learning about globalization and sustainable living and she thought learning about the Safe T Home® would be a perfect example.

Students worked with Global Compassion Network staff to build the Safe T Home® from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Before lunch, students heard a presentation about how the Safe T Homes® are making a different in countries like Haiti.

The structure will remain on-site at Goodrell and serve as an outdoor classroom for the month of April before being relocated.
