Black History Month at Garton – DMPS-TV News

Edna Mae Griffin’s story was retold to students at Garton Elementary School to celebrate Black History Month. Local actress and activist Sharon Kay Brown re-enacted Griffin’s persona and told the crowd how she was refused service at Katz Drug Store in 1948. Griffin successfully protested her discrimination. After Brown told the students about Griffin’s life, students sang “Lift Every Voice and Sing” or what is sometimes referred to as The Black National Anthem.
