The DMPS TLC System

Since the 2015-16 school year, Des Moines Public Schools has been awarded annual funding by the Iowa Department of Education through the state’s Teacher Leadership and Compensation (TLC) system.

The philosophy driving TLC boils down to this: Improving student learning requires improving the instruction they receive each day. There is no better way to do this than to empower our best teachers to lead the effort.

The district’s TLC funding exceeds $10 million per year and funds more than 1,100 Teacher Leader positions.
