Des Moines Public Schools is to have many people in our community willing to support our students, teachers and schools. From donating their time or their money, individuals, organizations and businesses have been generous in lending a hand to public education.

DMPS is grateful for financial contributions. And, we want to make sure our staff follows school district policies and procedures when it comes to any fundraising efforts for their classrooms or schools.

This web page provides the information you need to go about this properly.

Internal Fundraising Process

Let’s talk donations, fundraising, and grants!

We use fundraising to give DMPS and our schools an extra boost and to fund items, get services, and improve facilities. To be considerate of local business and community members (and help keep our entire organization organized!), the district-wide fundraising approval process has been revised and improved. If you are planning a fundraising campaign, you will need to fill out the Fundraising Approval form. Please note this requirement applies to all DMPS-staff and the district’s Affiliate Organizations (such as PTOs, Boosters, Foundations).

Staff members who conduct fundraising activities without prior approval may be subject to disciplinary action.

Fundraising Approval Form

All fundraisers must be approved by the appropriate administrator at minimum 14 days (2 weeks) before a fundraising campaign or donation ask takes place. The fundraiser must comply with DMPS Board Policy 850 (District-Sponsored Student Fundraising), DMPS Board Policy 717 (Gifts, Grants, and Bequests), and with the Fundraising Procedures in the DMPS Business & Finance Procedure Manual. If you have received an unsolicited donation or in-kind donation from an individual or company (meaning you did not reach out to them to ask for the donation), please fill out the online Donation Form. This helps the district foster good relationships with those who support the work we do at DMPS, as well as track district-wide impact by organizations!

Campaign Evaluation Form

After all fundraising campaign or ask takes place, the sponsor has ten (10) school days to submit the online Campaign Evaluation Form.
