The Des Moines Public School’s Purchasing Department is responsible for the procurement of products and services consumed by the district. Procedures for requesting products and services are:

  • The district seeks pricing for requested products and services with expected costs greater than $100,000.00, which are reviewed and approved by the school board prior to the acquisition of the requested product or service.
  • In the same fashion, the district seeks pricing for requested products and services with expected costs less than $100,000.00, but review and approval to proceed with acquiring the products and services is directed by district administration.
  • The district requires a Request for Proposal (RFP) for products and services of a complex or technical matter with expected expenditures over $100,000.00, which are reviewed and approved by the school board prior to the acquisition of the requested product or service.
  • In a similar fashion, RFP’s with expected expenditures of less than $100,000.00 are reviewed and approved by district administration.

The Purchasing Department also maintains an online auction site to list surplus/obsolete items. The sale of these items is required by the Code of Iowa and is conducted in accordance with school board policy.

NOTE:  ProcureWare is ending January 2025, and the district will transition to Ion Wave (IWT). Click here for more information.
