Nearly 5,000 people work to provide and support a quality education to more than 30,000 students in Des Moines. From school administrators and educators to bus drivers and technology professionals to food and nutrition providers to financial experts, these dedicated DMPS employees are committed to providing the best possible experience for students and families. Each month the Become Here Spotlight will shine on an administrator, an educator and a staff member to share a little more about the many people working to teach and support the children and students of our community, and in the words of those who nominated them for the recognition.

Harding Middle School

Trevor Hixon has been an invaluable asset to Harding Middle School for the past 11 years as the Success Case Manager. His dedication to supporting students both within the school and in the community has made a significant impact. Trevor not only supports students but also his colleagues, so they can provide the best service possible to students. His involvement goes beyond academics; he coaches football, wrestling, soccer, and weightlifting. Trevor recruits students for these sports and provides encouragement whenever it’s needed. His upbeat attitude and willingness to help wherever necessary have been a cornerstone of our school’s success. We are truly grateful for his tireless efforts and commitment to the well-being and success of both students and staff.

I would like to recognize, Associate Principal, Dr. Ryan Williamson for his persistent leadership, advocacy, and relationship building he has with the administrative team, teachers, support staff, students, and families. Dr. Williamson is an integral part of our team and continues to challenge the status quo while providing a voice for the voiceless. He knows that all students matter, yet he realizes that our historically resilient students’ need whole child support. Dr. Williamson leads with his heart and is a wonderful human being who is relentless, passionate, and courageously dedicated to the North community.
