The wins keep on coming for the Central Campus Marine Corps JROTC rifle team! Gunnery Sgt. Michael Gettler, Marine Instructor and Rifle Team Coach, gives us an update on the 2023 Iowa Junior Olympics and the American Legion State Championships.
The Central Campus Marine Corps JROTC shooting team hosted and competed in the 2023 Iowa Junior Olympics 3P Air Rifle State Championships. Central Campus won its 18th straight Championship! The Central Campus JV team placed 3rd.
DMPS swept the individual state championship awards! North High School senior Hope Dobek won the Individual State Championship with a score of 555, followed closely by teammate North High School junior Lizzea Wright who finished 2nd with a score of 553. Lincoln High School senior Paul Sleeth finished the trifecta for Central Campus with a 542.
The team also competed this past weekend in the American Legion State Championships hosted at Camp Dodge, earning the top spots again. Central Campus won the team Championship with a score of 2143. Hope Dobek won the individual State Title with a 554, followed again by teammate Lizzea Wright with a 547. North junior Hai Ter finished in 3rd place with a 522 and Paul Sleeth and Wesley Rumbaugh tied to take 4th and 5th with a 521. Dobek, Wright and Ter also received $2000.00, $1500.00 and $1000.00 in scholarship money to be used at the college of their choice upon graduation.
The team isn’t finished yet! They departed today for Camp Perry, Ohio for the 2023 JROTC Armed forces Championships. The top 7 teams from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps will compete for the top overall Championship.
