Update: Congratulations to the Roosevelt High School dance team for earning the top spot at State! The Riders are the 2022 Class III Contemporary State Champions. Congratulations to Coach Mihalovich and the entire team.
Two high school dance teams from Des Moines Public Schools earned high marks at the Dance Team Union’s regional competition, held the weekend of November 19 at Johnston High School. Dancers from Lincoln and Roosevelt earned top placements, including 1st place in one category, along with specialty awards!
This was Dance Team Union’s largest regional competition to date with over 45 teams in attendance from Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska.
Both Lincoln and Roosevelt are preparing to compete at the Iowa State Dance & Drill Team State Championships from November 30 through December 2 in Des Moines.
Lincoln is coached by Ashley Johnson and Roosevelt is coached by Antonia Mihalovich,
Des Moines Lincoln competed in 2 separate categories (Large Varsity Hip Hop and Large Varsity Jazz) with the following results:
- 3rd Place – Large Varsity Hip Hop
- 12th Place – Large Varsity Jazz
Des Moines Roosevelt competed in 5 separate categories (All-Star Lyrical, Small Varsity Jazz, Small Varsity Hip Hop, Junior Soloists, and Junior Trio) with the following results:
- 1st Place – All-Star Lyrical
- 2nd Place – Small Varsity Jazz

- Junior Soloist Jordan Formaro – 2nd Place
- Junior Soloist Hadley Harvey – 3rd Place
