Scarlets, Huskies, Rails, Polar Bears and Roughriders will all be running around the blue oval at Drake Stadium this week as the coed 2022 State Track & Field gets underway. Student-athletes from all five DMPS high schools will be competing in 25 different events.

Among the DMPS student-athletes whose qualifying marks are among the top five in the state is Hoover sophomore Jessica Kyne in both the 100m and 200m events. Roosevelt’s Abi Hahn is also a top five qualifier in the 3000m race. Roosevelt’s 4×400 relay team also enters the state meet with the 4th fastest qualifying time in Iowa. On the boys side, Roosevelt’s Isaiah Roundtree enters the high jump with a qualifying mark tied for the second highest in the state.

There are restrictions in place at the year’s state championship, such as limited attendance and face masks, aligned with current public health guidelines.  For more information on the State Track & Field Meet, which takes place this Thursday through Saturday, be sure to visit the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union or the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
