Des Moines Public Schools has distributed almost a million meals since the district food and nutrition team began serving hungry children when the district closed buildings in mid-March.

Now, an offer from the personal transport company Uber is making it easier for DMPS families to travel to and from the district’s meal distribution sites. The company is offering 10,000 rides up to $25 each at no cost to riders.

Between now and June 30, 2020 an Uber rider who uses the code DMPS2020 will receive up to $25 off of each ride (up to two rides per Uber account).

“Uber heard about our plans to feed hungry children over the summer and reached out to lend a hand while our families continue to navigate the Coronavirus Pandemic,” Director of Food and Nutrition Amanda Miller said. “We’re pleased to have them as a community partner during this difficult time.”

Details about the free Uber rides:

• Each Uber app user will receive two rides free, up to $25 each while supplies last.
• The promo code is redeemable until June 30, 2020.
• The promo codes may only be used for travel to or from the DMPS meal site addresses listed on our website.
• Riders must be 18 or older to have an Uber account. If a rider is under the age of 18, they must be accompanied by an adult. More information can be found in Uber’s community guidelines.
