Results of the experiments were conclusive at last week’s State Science & Technology Fair in the campus of Iowa State University in Ames.

Des Moines Public Schools students are leaders in the laboratory.

In the middle school division, 47 DMPS student-scientists from six schools (Brody, Callanan, Cowles, McCombs, Merrill, and Weeks) qualified, and 29 of them earned at least honorable mention.

Merrill Middle School was awarded the Clay Groff Memorial Traveling Trophy that goes to the most successful school overall at the state science fair.

At the high school level, 48 DMPS students qualified and together they garnered 18 awards and citations. Top honorees including Rabsa Naseer, who earned the Women in Science and Engineering Award; David Turner, whose honors included the Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award; and Victoria Pliler and Madison Stout, who were the top overall finishers in the FFA division.
