Two Des Moines football standouts – Kendell Jackson of Roosevelt and Will McElvain of Lincoln – have been selected to play in the 2018 Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Classic. The game will be played Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the UNI Dome in Cedar Fall. Kick off is at 4:00 PM.
Both soon-to-be graduates are heading off to college later this year to continue their education and football careers. Jackson is going to Iowa State University while McElvain is off to the University of Northern Iowa.
“I am really happy for Kendell. I know he will compete well and represent our program and school community with class,” said Roosevelt football coach Erik Link. “Kendell will have an amazing experience throughout the week interacting with players and coaches from all over the state. Probably the best experience he’ll have is when they go visit the Shriner’s Children hospital. It’s such a neat, heart-warming experience that he’ll cherish for the rest of his life.
“It’s a great honor to play in the Shrine Bowl and I am really looking forward to it,” said Jackson.
“Will has been a starter at the varsity level for Lincoln since the middle of his freshman year,” said Lincoln football coach Derek Summy. “He has set every quarterback record at including touchdown passes, completions, and yards.
Last Fall, McElvain was selected to play in the River Battle Bowl, an all-star football game between Iowa and Nebraska players. He was selected as the game’s MVP.
This will be the 46th annual edition of the Iowa Shrine Bowl, which has raised over $2.6 million for the Shriner’s Hospital for Children
