Agriculture Students Raise and Sell Meat, Eggs

A girl holds a chicken.Cold winter days get us thinking about warm evening meals, and DMPS students are happy to help you with the menu.

Students enrolled in the Central Campus Environmental & Agricultural Sciences Academy and Future Farmers of America (FFA) are selling fresh eggs, whole chickens, lamb, pork and beef from the Ag Lab.

Horticulture & Animal Science students raise chickens, pigs and sheep as part of their curriculum. This year, they are selling the eggs they gathered from their laying hens and the meat from the chicken they raised.  They are also selling lamb, pork and beef from local farms.

“Next year all of the sheep and pork products will come from our program,” said Kevin Anderson, a Central Campus Animal Science and Horticulture instructor.

The money earned from the sale is used to help students fund livestock projects, and pay for trips to state and national FFA events.

“We try to have everything free to students and by hosting this sale, we are able to provide them with the resources they need to excel in their chosen field,” Anderson said.

A classic example of students getting their hands dirty, digging in to succeed.
