Central Campus Culinary Students Win National Awards
Chef John Andres and three teams of Central Campus culinary arts students won national awards at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. this week.
“I am so proud of our students,” Chef Andres said. “Their performance was excellent and they exemplified what Iowa and Des Moines Public Schools have to offer the country in family and consumer sciences.”
FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in family and consumer sciences education, in public and private school through grade 12. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers and communities by addressing important personal, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education.
Chef Andres said in addition to competing, students had time to do some sightseeing, and spent the 4th of July enjoying the “Capitol Fourth” concert and fireworks on the National Mall.
