Teachers Focus on Students During Summer Break
While students enjoy their first full week of summer, more than 600 DMPS teachers, principals and staff were using the Convention Center Ballroom as a training ground.
Less than a week after saying goodbye to their students, they’re preparing to do an even better job with next year’s learners.
“Moving into the 15-16 school year, we are moving forward as one district, with a common approach to student behavior, anchored in best practices by realistic and research-based practices,” Director of School Climate Transformation Jake Troja said.
The tables are separated by school, but the participants aren’t sitting for long. Troja quickly has them working in larger groups, sharing their experiences and problem solving.
The conference is paid for with a Federal School Climate Transformation Grant and focuses on three main goals: Implement a multi-tiered behavioral framework to improve school climate, ensure all students have access to a safe school environment in which to learn and ensure all students are engaged in school.
Feedback from employees was positive with 97% saying trainings like this one should be offered in the future.
