Dream to Teach Seeks Students, Mentors
There are still positions left in the Dream to Teach program. The new program works with minority students in middle and high school who have an interest in becoming teachers, providing support to help them go on to college and careers in education. The program will provide mentors to students and assistance at the higher education level and during their first years of teaching in the field.
At the first Dream to Teach workshop, students, parents and mentors listened to keynote speaker Desmund Adams, author of “From Dropout to Doctorate,” share his inspiring story of growing up in poverty, dropping out of school and working hard to become a successful businessman and motivational speaker.
They also participated in team building exercises and talked with current college students, a college admissions representative, a multicultural liaison officer from ISU’s College of Education and others from positions they will likely encounter during their journey from middle school to career.
Dream to Teach is still seeking mentor/teachers from North High School and East High School and interested students from Lincoln High School and McCombs Middle School.
