Future Grandmasters Compete in G/T Chess Tournament
Some future Bobby Fischers, Gary Kasparovs and Magnus Carlsens gathered at Central Campus Tuesday night to see who had the best moves with their knights and rooks.
The 2014 Chess Tournament, sponsored by the Gifted Education Program, involved 65 students representing 26 elementary schools. Students competed in three divisions and played three games each in the preliminary round. The top six players in each division advanced to the final rounds.
The winners in each division were:
Beginner
- 1st place: Siddharth Sridhar (Cowles)
- 2nd place: Kase Murphy (Howe)
- 3rd place: Jack Franks (Hanawalt)
Intermediate
- 1st place: Pradyumna Dahal (South Union)
- 2nd place: Sean McCallum-Houchins (Hillis)
- 3rd place: Andrew Milne (Downtown School)
Advanced
- 1st place: Patrick Foster (Downtown School)
- 2nd place: Sebastian Grannes (Hanawalt)
- 3rd place: Caden Kline (River Woods).
