Central Campus Student Honored for Radio Work
Hoover High School graduate, Michael Turner, was selected as a TOP 5 nominee in the 60 Second Original Promo category for his entry entitled “Hip Hop Hour.”
His promo was screened by a panel of judges in Chicago and he was awarded with a $1000 scholarship to North Central College.
The John Drury contest honors the life of Chicagoland news anchor John Drury, who battled MLS until his passing in 2007.
Five current students and broadcasting instructor, Kirk Johnson, attended the ceremonies held on the North Central College campus in Naperville, Illinois.
“It was a meaningful and tangible opportunity for our kids to see a college radio station in action,” Johnson said. “The award for Michael is a great honor and well-deserved.”
Michael Ryner (Lincoln), Maddie Jenkins (Hoover), Aurteamus Crow (Hoover), Kokou Adzanoh (Lincoln) and Lejla Subasic (Hoover), all current deejays in the Central Campus program, also made the trip.
