Roosevelt Raises Funds for Fallen Officers
UPDATE: Rider Root Beer sold out on Tuesday, November 15. Commemorative t-shirts are still for sale.
The city of Des Moines and the Roosevelt community continue to mourn the loss of two great law enforcement officials: DMPD Sgt. Tony Beminio, a former SRO at Roosevelt, and Urbandale Officer Justin Martin. Both were tragically killed in the line of duty on Wednesday, November 2nd.
In an effort to show the school’s support for these two gentlemen, their families and for police officers across our country, the Blue For Blue Campaign has been created to support the Beminio and Martin families as we begin the Holiday Season.
Through the collaborative efforts of Roosevelt High School and the athletic booster club of TRHS – Rider Club, a fundraising campaign will run from Monday, November 14th through November 22nd, with all proceeds going to directly to the families of Sgt. Beminio and Officer Martin.
In recognition of the service that Sgt. Beminio provided to the students and staff of Roosevelt High School, a special Rider Root Beer promotion has been created in his memory. It is also important to note that Sgt. Beminio’s wife, Zoe, was a 1997 graduate of Roosevelt High School. In the spirit of a Roughrider, we honor their family and thank them for their positive impact on our community and youth.
A total of 225 32oz bottles of Rider Root Beer will be sold for $10 each in the Rider Shop, with 100% of the proceeds going to Sgt. Beminio’s family.
In addition, a special edition t-shirt in honor of both Sgt. Beminio and Officer Martin is being sold to raise funds for the families of both police officers. The shirt features the badge numbers of both officers, with “Honor” on the front and “Still Got Your Six” on the back. The t-shirts are $20 each.
During this upcoming Holiday Season, the thoughts of Roosevelt and everyone at DMPS will be with Sgt. Beminio’s children, family members, and to the entire Des Moines Police Department.
